Petrifaction

Petrifaction: the process in which organic material is replaced with minerals such as calcium carbonate and silicates. The shape that should have been broken down by decomposers is preserved through this physical process. The end product is, most of the time, different from what we see in everyday life.

While I'm working on the Petrifaction series, I picture the process of petrifaction in my mind and merge the resulting images with landscapes, creatures, and elusive shapes that emerge from my memory.
